Rain coinciding with a backup is useful evidence
Tell the assessor whether the backup followed rain, fixture use or neither. Seattle Public Utilities distinguishes interior plumbing and the privately maintained side sewer; a timing pattern alone does not locate a fault. Record which drains are affected and ask what flow testing or inspection will establish before agreeing to further work.
One slow fixture or several affected drains?
Record the affected sinks, showers and toilets. Tell the assessor if a washing-machine discharge or upstairs fixture causes water to appear elsewhere. Different patterns call for different investigations; a single symptom does not prove the location or material of a blockage.
Avoid adding a chemical complication
Tell the plumber about any cleaner already used, including the product and approximate timing. Do not mix products or keep using a fixture that is overflowing. Keep people away from sewage and avoid contact with affected materials.
Before calling, distinguish one-fixture symptoms from a shared drainage problem and describe what you observed.
Questions to ask about clogged drains & plumbing backups
- What findings support this repair rather than a different scope?
- Who will perform the work, and which Washington qualifications cover it?
- What visit charge, parts, testing, permits and restoration exclusions apply?
Does the quote include everything?
Ask about assessment charges, the proposed remedy, parts, testing and work excluded from the scope. Availability and charges depend on the answering business and actual property. Compare the supplied scopes and exclusions before choosing.
Read when clearing and inspection answer different drainage questions before approving additional work.
